Cosmetic Plastic Surgery In Toronto:
Lower Blepharoplasty (Eyelid)

Many people often confuse swelling or bags under the eyes with tiredness, and if you’re one of the millions of people around the world whose lower eyelids sag, you’re probably tired of being told you look tired. Getting more sleep may help, however Blepharoplasty is your best option for returning to a youthful, rested appearance.

Blepharoplasty

The Lower Eyelid is a very complex structure and is very important for keeping the eyes moist. Traditional eyelid surgery does not take care of the function of the eyelid and long term dryness can result if important precautions are not taken. It is important to have an eye exam before surgery. You must provide the doctor with all of your medical history in regards to your eyes so that problems can be avoided.

Blepharoplasty can help reduce the appearance of aging and tiredness, such as:

  • Sagging of the lower eyelids
  • Darkness of the lower lids

There are three steps to rejuvenation of the lower eyelid:

  1. Micro-fat Grafting to restore the cheek volume below the lid and to get rid of the dark circles under the eyes
  2. Removal of the puffy fat of the lower eyelid (the incision is hidden inside the eyelid)
  3. Tightening the muscle, tendon and the skin, called a Canthopexy,  it is a very important step for all surgeries of the lower eyelid

The goal is to eliminate the bags beneath the eye (the result of Herniation of the fat pads away from the lower rim of the eye socket) because of genetics and aging, and to remove excess skin. This will ensure that the eye looks rested, not distorted or changed from how the eye appeared in your youth.

Preparation
As with all surgeries performed by Dr. Born, patients are prescribed supplements to take before and after the surgery, to help prepare and recover faster and without complications.

Procedure length
The length of this procedure varies according to the unique needs of the patient.

Recovery
Fine sutures will be used to protect the eye in the first 24 hours to seven days following surgery – to keep the eyes moist and prevent scratching by the cool packs and will be removed four days after the procedure. You will be prescribed two sets of eye drops for you to use for the following two weeks to prevent swelling and infection. You may also need a lubricating eye drops until the normal moisturizing of the eye returns. There may be some bruising for the first week to 10 days.

There are some general risks intrinsic to all surgical procedures; please take a moment to review them.
