Labial Reduction
For many women, asymmetrical or over-sized Labia Minora can cause discomfort when wearing certain clothes and can be a source of embarrassment during sexual intimacy. It can also make routine activities like riding an exercise bicycle very uncomfortable and even painful, limiting the choices some women can make in pursuing a healthy lifestyle.
If you’ve limited your clothing or exercise options due to discomfort and/or embarrassment, Labial Reduction is the solution to your problem.
Labial Reduction
Labial Reduction (also known as Labial Beautification or Labiaplasty) is a way to reduce the size, and improve the symmetry of the Labia Minora that can be caused by:
- Heredity – large labia may be a genetic trait experienced from birth
- Age – as the skin loses its natural elasticity, the labia can sag
- Pregnancy – the birthing process causes stretching, making the labia asymmetrical
- Steroids – hormonal changes can lead to increased labial size
Labiaplasty of the Labia Minora can involve two steps:
- Excision of excess skin from the labia, improving size and symmetry
- Liposuction of fat from the labia to reduce overall volume
The goal is to decrease the overall volume of the labia, improving the symmetry and aesthetics of the folds, and eliminating the irritation experienced while wearing clothing or during physical activities.
Risks of hand-harvesting fat and Liposuction
- Pain
- Scarring
- Too little or too much tissue removed
- Irregular shape
- Delayed healing
There are some general risks intrinsic to all surgical procedures; please take a moment to review them.
Preparation
As with all surgeries performed by Dr. Born, patients are prescribed supplements to take before and after the surgery, to help prepare and recover faster and without complications.
Procedure length
The length of this procedure takes approximately one hour with sedation and local freezing. You will be allowed to leave the same day.
Recovery
The self-dissolving sutures used in this surgery will not require removal. The patient should bathe in Epsom salts or shower twice daily. A twice-daily Sitz bath is a suitable alternative if patients choose to do so. There will be some initial minor discomfort, and on the fifth day, you can begin massaging the labia twice daily. You may resume normal activities a week after surgery.

The Result
Surgical reduction of the labia will not only enhance their aesthetic appearance, improving the patient’s self-esteem, but will also improve their quality of life by giving patients the freedom to choose clothing and exercise options that were painful or irritating in the past.
It is important to note that each surgery is tailored to meet the unique needs and features of individual patients.
What other patients want
Many patients combine Labial Reduction with procedures such as Breast Augmentation or Body Contouring to achieve an overall enhancement of their appearance.
