Cosmetic Plastic Surgery In New York City:
Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)
We may express our thoughts with our mouths, but the eyes express our emotions. Our brows rise when we are surprised, lower when we are angry and arch when we’re intrigued. With just a look, we let others know exactly how we feel. But all this expressiveness eventually causes us to look older, and eventually making us appear tired, worn out or worried all the time.
If you’re bothered by the appearance of wrinkles between the eyes, and skin excess in the upper eyelids, a Brow Lift may be the answer you’ve been searching for.
Brow Lift
The Brow Lift, also known as a Forehead lift, can diminish the visible signs of aging such as;
- Deep creases along the forehead
- Creases between the brows
- Sagging at the edges
The goal is to diminish creases along the forehead and brow line so the patient appears relaxed and refreshed, without any obvious surgical enhancement. A Brow Lift can be performed with several techniques.
- Micro-Fat Grafting - Adding volume back to the hollows below the eyes and the brow/temple region which will help lift the eyebrow
- Soft tissue fillers such as Restylane, Radiesse and Sculptra which will also help lift the eyebrow by adding volume to the hollows below the eyes and the brow/temple region
- BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used alone or in combination with the above procedures
- Open Brow Lift
- Endoscopic Brow Lift
Micro-Fat Grafting
Restoring volume around the eyes and forehead is very important in shaping the face, elevating the tissues and restoring a more youthful, less tired appearance. A majority of patients will have an excellent result using this procedure over an open or Endoscopic Brow Lift and the results are very ‘natural’ and undetectable.
Soft tissue fillers
Fillers can achieve the same results as Micro-Fat Grafting without the surgical down time, and differ in that they do not have the permanence of Micro-Fat Grafting.
BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX relaxes the muscles that furrow or pull down on the eyebrows, and allows the muscles in the forehead to lift the eyebrows. BOTOX® Cosmetic can be combined with surgical or injection procedures to achieve the best results.
Open Brow Lift
This procedure is chosen when features such as the eyebrow position, muscles and skin of the forehead require the open technique for the best results. An open brow lift will not likely need to be repeated in the future. The decision to use this technique depends on the shape of the hairline, height of the forehead, and the desired result. It is critical not to lift the eyebrows too high, leading to a startled or surprised appearance. The tissues of the forehead are lifted and the muscles are modified to reduce the frown lines. Care must be taken to preserve the hairline and follicles when the eyebrows are lifted to their new position.
Preparation
As with all surgeries performed by Dr. Born, patients are prescribed supplements to take before and after the surgery, to help prepare and recover faster and without complications.
Procedure length
The procedure takes two to three hours and is done while you’re asleep, or under sedation. You may stay overnight in the clinic or go home later the same day.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
This procedure is chosen over the Open Brow Lift when the eyebrow position, muscles and skin of the forehead require only minimal adjustment. The decision to use this technique depends on the shape of the hairline, height of the forehead, and the desired result. It is critical not to lift the eyebrows too high, leading to a startled or surprised appearance. The tissues of the forehead are lifted using a small endoscope to visualize the surgery which is done through very small incisions behind the hairline. The muscles are modified to reduce the frown lines. Care is taken to preserve the hairline and follicles. The eyebrows are lifted to their new position and fixed with a suture. No hair is removed.
Preparation
As with all surgeries performed by Dr. Born, patients are prescribed supplements to take before and after the surgery, to help prepare and recover faster and without complications.
Procedure length
The procedure takes two to three hours and is done while you’re asleep or under sedation. You may stay overnight in the clinic and a small drain is removed the following day.
Recovery
Patients can return to normal activities a week after surgery. Small stitches are removed after three days and the remaining stitches are removed on the seventh day after the surgery. There will be some swelling for three to five days and bruising generally dissipates less than a week following surgery. There may be residual bruising for up to three weeks. We provide camouflage make-up consultation and Skin Care Lines to ease your transition through the recovery period. We suggest that patients who regularly colour their hair do so one week prior to surgery, as hair coloring should be postponed for at least four weeks following this procedure.

The Result
The final result of Brow Lift surgery is a return to a youthful, refreshed appearance without the patient looking surprised or startled. Keep in mind that the same factors which caused the initial facial aging will resume after surgery, but lifestyle changes that include limiting sun exposure, exercise and quitting smoking can lengthen the benefits of your surgery.
It is important to note that each surgery is tailored to meet the unique needs and features of individual patients.
What other patients want
Many patients combine Brow Lift surgery with other facial rejuvenating procedures such as Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery), Face and/or Neck Lift, and Chin or Cheek Augmentation to achieve an overall restoration of their appearance.
